How ATS keyword matching works
Many employers use applicant tracking systems to store and search resumes. Recruiters often search by skills and job titles, so mirroring the exact terms from the job post (when true) makes your resume easier to find.
Tips
- Use standard headings: Experience, Education, Skills.
- Spell out acronyms once, for example "search engine optimization (SEO)".
- Avoid tables, text boxes and images for key content.
- Save as a text-based PDF or DOCX.
Frequently asked questions
What is a resume keyword scanner?
It compares your resume to a job description and shows which important keywords you already include and which are missing, similar to what applicant tracking systems (ATS) look for.
Is my resume uploaded anywhere?
No. The scan runs entirely in your browser. Your resume and the job post never leave your device.
What is a good keyword match score?
Aim for around 70% or more on the keywords that genuinely apply to you. A perfect score is not necessary and not realistic.
Should I add every missing keyword?
No. Add only skills and tools you actually have, and use the same wording as the job post where it is true.
